Jennifer Lawrence is famous for her clumsiness after tripping during several red carpet events over the years, but the actress reveals those are not her most embarrassing moments.
“The Hunger Games” star famously fell up the stairs at the 2012 Oscars, on her way up to accept her Best Actress prize for “Silver Linings Playbook,” and last year, she walked into a construction cone at the red carpet entrance to the Academy Awards
And it’s not just at the Oscars the actress needs to watch her footing – earlier this month (November 15), she took a tumble on the steps of the Kinepolis Cinema in Spain while promoting “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.” While Lawrence admits her public tumbles are embarrassing, they are not the most humiliating moments she has been through.
“I think everybody thinks they’ve witnessed my most embarrassing moments, because I fell on my face getting an Oscar and then I fell the next year on a cone, but there’s these two really humiliating stories that are my most embarrassing moments that I’ve never talked about because it’s so genuinely embarrassing,” she told U.S. late night host Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday
“My most embarrassing moment was during the Silver Linings Playbook year (2013). (It was) like awards season and (I’m at a party)… in a corner drinking champagne and an older woman approached me and was being really, really nice, really complimentary and in my head I just went, ‘This is Elizabeth Taylor’, who was dead at the time. Who’s still dead and I didn’t know that.
“So the whole time she’s talking to me, I’m like, ‘Oh, my God! This is Elizabeth Taylor!’ She’s complimenting me! I was like, ‘Me? No! You! Your movies that I can’t name and your fashion moments that I don’t know!’ I was like, ‘You’re unbelievable!’ My friend walked by and grabbed her and I was like, ‘This is Elizabeth Taylor’, and she was like, ‘No, it’s not’, and I just took off running.”
Lawrence’s second embarrassing moment came when she built up the courage to approach director Francis Ford Coppola at a restaurant in Paris several years ago, but she didn’t realise she was suffering a wardrobe malfunction as she walked up to his table.
“I was in one of those cool Tom Ford dresses with the zippers,” she continued. “I saw Francis Ford Coppola and I was like, ‘Oh my God, it’s Francis Ford Coppola…’ I started walking and I noticed I was barefoot, but I was like, ‘Eh, they probably won’t notice.’ So, I’m barefoot, and I introduced myself and said, ‘Oh, I’m such a huge fan. The Godfather…,’ and then went on and introduced myself to the whole table, ‘Hi, I’m Jennifer Lawrence’. They had no idea who I was.
“Then I went back to my table, and my entire dress was unzipped, and my thong was out. So, I was barefoot and my whole ass was out. I think I was making room for my gut and then I unzipped the whole thing and forgot. I thought the shoes were going to be the problem.”
